Cherie supports the Orange Prize for Fiction

9 October 2012

As an avid reader who went to the first Orange Prize for Fiction, Cherie is delighted to belong to a group of fantastic women who are supporting this prize.

The Orange Prize for Fiction was set up 17 years ago to “celebrate excellence, originality and accessibility in women’s writing from around the world”. It is one of the most successful and most respected literary awards in the world, and even appearing on its shortlist boosts a novel’s sales considerably.

The award is given once a year to the best book written in English by a woman. In the past, winners have included Zadie Smith, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Barbara Kingsolver. The winner is awarded £30,000 and “the Bessie”, a bronze figurine.

It is now known as a benchmark for quality and originality as the longest permanent arts sponsorship in the UK. In recognition of their significant commitment to reading and literature Orange has won every UK major sponsorship award.
