The Loomba Foundation celebrated International Widows Day 2013 in London with a Fun 5 Km Run and Walk.
On a dull June Sunday morning Cherie, as President of the Loomba Foundation, started the event by sending off the runners followed by two different groups of walkers. Around 500 people took part from those in push chairs to those walking more sedately!
Runners and walkers finished the course by noon and following Indian refreshments, Bappi Lahiri performed his new song composed especially for International Widows Day "Justice for Widows."
On Monday, Cherie attended a Conference at the House of Lords addressed by Baroness Northover who spoke about DFID's work in the field; Laskmi Puri, Acting Head of UN Women, which partners with the Loomba Foundation in many countries to tackle the plight of widows; Bianca Jagger and others involved in the fight for justice for widows.
