Cherie was asked to become a sponsor champion of the mWomen Programme that Vodafone Turkey launches later this year.
Last week, Cherie visited Istanbul for the First Annual Reception of the Vodafone Turkey Foundation; one of 27 Foundations within the Vodafone Group around the world.
As keynote speaker at the reception Cherie spoke about her own Foundation for Women, in particular the Mobile Technology Programme which links in to the work of the Vodafone Turkey Foundation, currently leading the "Women's Movement in Technology" project in cooperation with the Turkish Informatics Foundation and the Women Entrepreneurs Association of Turkey.
Their joint aim is to open up new technological opportunities for women which will enable them to increase their buisiness potential through mobile phone usage. This is especlally helpful for those living in reomote areas.
During the trip Cherie gave a series of interviews and was delighted to meet the many prominent members of Turkish society who have taken an interest in this very worthwhile project. She also enjoyed listening to the music of the Social Inclusion Band, another beneficiary of the Vodafone Turkey Foundation
Cherie's contribution to the cause of women entrepreneurs was widely acknowledged and she was asked to become a sponsor champion of the mWomen Programme that Vodafone Turkey launches later this year. An electronic signing ceremony took place to formalise the commitment of VTF to be the Turkey leg of the global women's program which is being led by the Cherie Blair Foundation and the GSMA Development Fund..
Cherie Blair said "This is an important effort to provide women with technological opportunities," She also pointed out that technology is a crucial vehicle to improve socio-economic situations for women.
