Dear AUW Supporters,
We are pleased to share with you this report from the Wilson Center's Women in Public Service Project (WPSP). This summer, AUW collaborated with the WPSP to host a summer leadership training, the AUW Women in Public Service Summer Institute. The program lasted for two weeks and was led by Dr. Rangita de Silva de Alwis (S.J.D.), Director of the WPSP's inaugural institute at Wellesley College and head of the Global Women's Leadership Initiative at the Woodrow Wilson Center for International Scholars. Many of AUW's students enter the University with aspirations of working in public service, or becoming advocates and providers of social services. However, those who participated in the WPSP Institute reported that they left with more defined goals and a sense that they were on their way to achieving them. Mursal Juya, a first-year undergraduate from Afghanistan, wrote after the Institute: "I've already started thinking as a leader."
This report from the WPSP details the Institute's activities based on blog posts and notes from AUW students, and the curriculum developed by Dr. De Silva. We hope that you enjoy reading about the Institute, and we thank you for your continued support for AUW. Click here to read the WPSP report on the AUW website.
