The Community Foundation for Merseyside is an independent registered charity and is part of a national and global movement of community foundations that undertake strategic grant making, facilitate philanthropy and contribute to achieving positive social change in local communities. The Community Foundation connects donors with Merseyside's voluntary and community sector to meet local needs and tackle social issues. In the last eleven years it has invested over £40 million into the communities of Merseyside.
As Patron of the Community Foundation for Merseyside since 2005, Cherie proactively supports the charity to benefit Merseyside's local communities via speaking engagements, lending her support to events and meeting key supporters. In particular, Cherie supports the charity's annual Spirit of Merseyside Awards and gave a University lecture on the History of Philanthropy in Merseyside in April 2010 to support the charity's work as the area's Philanthropy Centre.
